“Heavy Duty” Business: The Getac 9213 Business Notebook

Usualgetac-9213ly business type notebooks tend to be pretty fragile as a rule. Well, it seems Getac (a small notebook maker) has bucked that rule, and wants to make a notebook with solid specs that can take a bit of a beating too.

Getac has recently announced the 9213 notebook PC. It has a 13.3-inch screen that supports a magnesium alloy case and chassis (for added durability), while the LCD display and hard drive are shock-mounted to prevent data loss or damage in the case of droppage, bumping, etc. To add to this stream of security, the device also includes a spill-resistant keyboard and touchpad as well.

Weighing at a fairly light 3.9lbs, the Getac 9213 has an low voltage 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo CPU with a 1GB of RAM built in (upgradable to 3GB, as are many laptops), a 120GB hard drive (upgradeable to 250GB), a LED-backlit LCD display that can suport 1280×800 resolution, and a 1.3-megapixel camera with two digital microphones. It’s pretty much a ready to go business package.

Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and optional 3G data network support. Its battery is another business luxury: it provides around 8-hours of power and can be stretched to 12 hours with an extra battery pack (that replaces the optical drive, which you may not have a need for depending on what purpose this is being bought for).

For even more security, there’s even a fingerprint scanner included, another recent feature starting to show up on laptops we like. No word on pricing or availability at this time, however. It may only be available online for awhile.
