Gaming laptops are a very popular segment of the laptop market nowadays (at the right price). The new MSI GT640 seems posied to become a strong contender with its solid specs.

The MSI GT640 is a new gaming laptop from MSI that comes jam packed with a powerful Intel Core i7 processor. The 15.4-inch laptop features a 1.6-GHz Core i7 CPU with an nVidia GeForce GTS 250M graphics, a 2.0 webcam, a Blu-ray drive, a 4GB DDR3 RAM, a 500GB HDD, and a couple of HD speakers. This gaming monster comes in either a 6-cell or 9-cell battery. There is no word on pricing so far.

Sounds good to us, and it’s something to be on the look out for in the future.

Netbook Joy: The MSI Wind U123

Netbooks have become the darlings of the laptop industry of late, and this is just another example. They’re small and easy to carry, and are perfect for on the go business needs. MSI is a company specializing in tiny, efficient netbooks, and they released their latest model in the US finally.

The MSI Wind U123 is finally shipping in the US via Amazon. The price: a very reasonable $349.99 with a 6-cell battery in two colors, red or blue.

This mini-laptop comes with a 10.2-inch screen with a solid 1024 x 600 resolution (enough for browsing and e-mailing; not really a heavy gaming system), a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor (pretty zippy), 1GB RAM, a sizable 160GB hard drive, a webcam, and all the network goodies, as you’d expect: WiFi, Bluetooth and comes with the Windows XP Home OS, fairly standard on netbooks.

A model with a longer lasting 9-cell battery can be pre-ordered for $379.99 as well.

Little Package, Lotta Game: MSI announces 14″ Gaming Notebook

MSI has let the cat out of the bag, and the cat isn’t all that huge at 14.1″ across. In fact, to slap a notebook that small with a “gaming” badge is pretty unusual. But this one may live up to the billing.

The GX403 is a 14.1″ laptop that is designated just such a way. It will come armed with a Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a GeForce GT 130M 256MB dedicated GPU too, so it has plenty of muscle for some demanding time-passers. It’ll have 4GB DDR2 RAM and a pretty huge 500GB HDD. Sounds good so far.

The only caveat: the 1280×800 resolution of the screen, but that should be just great for most games. You can add on a Blu-ray player for watching movies, though with this resolution it may not be Full HD.

Other specs are typical for the breed: an integrated webcam, 802.11b/g/n, HDMI, eSATA/USB plus 2 regular USBs, a card reader, and other goodies. It’s pretty light too: only 4.8lbs with a 6-cell battery

The machine will come with Vista Home Premium, and pricing or availability have not been announced. This one sounds pretty powerful to us, and if you need your gaming PC in a small package, this might be just the ticket.
